About Us: IC

With the news of the Final Days fresh in the memories of many, Echo's End is the newest of Adrianna Valabhi's business ventures. The elusive Thavnairian woman founded the organization to put her resources to use for the community, with a set of goals in mind: the protection of the star, but also, the enjoyment of it.Enter the arena, a place for the joy of combat and bloodsport, but also, for the inadvertent training of heroes against myriad fighting styles. The entire building is being developed as an internal ecosystem for their benefit, with areas for socialization, entertainment, and relaxation. And what does Lady Valabhi get out of it? A perpetual supply of amusement and revenue streams, but more importantly, the next time crisis comes to their doorstep, they'll have the means to stand fast against it.

About Us: OOC

Echo's End is a free company (FC) located on Balmung that operates a CWLS and associated Discord for community outreach and events. We are an adults-only community focused in North American timezones, focusing on the balance of real life responsibilities with the joy of writing and freedom of roleplay escapism. Our characters and themes range from simple slices of life to lore-flexible, overpowered hijinks, and we love it that way.Our goal is to provide a service to the community through public events that are both entertaining, and a catalyst for ongoing roleplay connections and plots. Guests are welcome and you do not need to be a member to take part. All that is required is a sense of humor, an open mind, and a separation of IC/OOC.

Arena Fight Rules

STANDARD MATCHUP RULESLast revision: Nov 11, 2022Echo's End Arena uses a variant on the well-known "Grindstone" style as the base of our combat rolls. If you are unfamiliar with how this is done, or are curious as to how we manage them, read on.After announcements are finished, the announcer will prompt both fighters to conduct a /random roll, to establish an initiative order. The announcer will then set the timer to 20 minutes. The fighter with the higher initiative roll will go first.Fighter 1 will write out a description of their attack out in the /yell channel, and after posting it, conduct a /random roll.Fighter 2 will then conduct their own /random roll for defense. If Fighter 1's attack roll is higher than Fighter 2's defense roll, Fighter 1 scores a point. If Fighter 2's defense roll is higher, then no points are awarded.Regardless of the outcome, the order now reverses. Fighter 2 will write out the conclusion of the attack - whether they are hit, or dodge - and then write out their counterattack in /yell, and /random roll.Fighter 1 will conduct a /random roll for defense, the rolls will be compared. If the attack roll is higher than the defense roll, Fighter 2 will score a point. This routine will repeat until the 20 minute timer runs out. If the score is tied at the end of regulation, the fight enters a "sudden death" where the next successful hit wins the match.Any additional judgment for ambiguous situations not specified and foreseen here is left to the announcer/battlemaster to rule on at the time they occur.ADDITIONAL RULESThere is a dampening field over the entirety of the arena's interior ring. Both physical and magical attacks consistent with abilities that player heroes might have in the lore, are fully allowed within. However, attacks may not affect anything outside of the ring.Attacks must not maim or kill the defender, nor be emoted as intending to cause this sort of permanent harm. As a defender, you are also responsible for emoting attacks hitting you in a way that does not maim or kill your character.Stalling during a match is not allowed. Fighters will have a maximum of 5 minutes to craft and post their replies. If a fighter exceeds this time limit, they will forfeit. If a successful attack roll is 900 or higher, it is a critical hit, and they will score 2 points instead of 1.While Echo's End staff are allowed to participate in fights, they are ineligible for any gil prizes.By signing up for a fight in Echo's End Arena, you agree to abide by these rules. Failure to abide by the rules may result in forfeiture of your match/prizes and a prohibition on joining future matches.HOUSE CHAMPIONSHIP RULESAt the end of the night, winning fighters from any of the preceding matches of that day will be chosen via a straw poll or obvious consensus from the audience. That fighter will fight against Echo's End's "house champion" as the final bout. The house champion has an inherent +100 bonus to both attack and defense rolls. This does not count towards critical hits; the champion must roll a natural 900 or higher to score a critical hit.In accordance with this increased difficulty, winning against a house champion comes with the gil prize and their adventurer plate recorded on our roster of heroes.

Classes

As a service to the community, Echo's End sponsors classes on combat technique, magical studies and more. Echo's End is not a combat school and its instructors are volunteers, but make no mistake, they are skilled in their respective disciplines and have much to teach the curious and willing.Classes are held most often on Thursdays and Sundays; join our discord to receive notifications of when classes will be taking place.

The Last Dance

The upstairs of the building houses a lounge with a stage, dance floor, mood lighting and a bar. This is The Last Dance, a place for employees, regulars and guests to relax after work and blow off steam with a few drinks, a show, or dancing the night away. Most hangouts at The Last Dance are informal and improvised, but some seasonal events will be held that will be open-door. History of Echo's End:
Valabhi Curiosities

The House of Valabhi is an old merchant family of Thavnair dating from the first migration of hyur to the isle. Originally artisans, the first mention of the Valabhis comes from a record of a commissioned set of golden jewelry for the daughter of the satrap at the time. From there, the Valabhis expanded into a number of trade goods, eventually settling as middle-men moving rare and and luxury goods for the upper class of Radz-at-Han and beyond. This was their core business even in the current era, with Valabhi Curiosities spanning all three continents within reach of Thavnair at its peak. Many would say that the Valabhi name is in its waning years, however, as the current head of the family, Dhruva Valabhi, had no siblings nor sired any children of his own, and has been rumored to be in poor health. Many of the Valabhi's businesses interests have been spun off or sold in the last few decades, with Dhruva preferring to keep only what can be more directly controlled by the family itself, which is now limited to a handful of second-cousins and an adopted daughter, Adrianna, who is not ethnically Thavnairian but instead an orphan from the fall of Ala Mhigo.Until the last few years, Valabhi Curiosities dealt in large volume with parties to which Thavnair was neutral, but are now seen as ethically dubious due to the abuses of hard Garlean rule in its most distant provinces. When public sentiment towards the empire soured, VC struggled to realign its business portfolio and opened a new trade branch focused on Eorzea, with Limsa Lominsa as its home port and Adrianna Valabhi at its helm. Ms. Valabhi was seen as a reformer compared to the branches focused on Ilsabard and Hingashi, with a vetted clientele and a stronger stance against selling antiquities of sociopolitical importance and value. When the Garlean Empire seemed to collapse overnight, VC lost contact with its personnel in Ilsabard and were unable to retrieve them or certify whether they were dead or in hiding from the uprising and turmoil. While the problem was not unique to VC, several remaining employees were openly critical of what they perceived to be a lack of responsibility on VC's part. There had already been rumblings of dissatisfaction due to the apparent shift in business ethics that came with Adrianna's appointment to the Eorzean branch, which had turned away business that had been lucrative and reliable for decades. All of these factors resulted in the Hingan branch revolting against its founding company and reforming under its own banner, calling themselves the Silver Fox Concern. They took on much of the remaining business to be had from Ilsabard and Othard that was of a grey ethical interest and focused themselves around the development and proliferation of mechanical technology, including both clockwork and magitek inspirations and research into Allagan artifacts.Things came to a head between the Silver Fox and VC's Eorzean branch when they infiltrated the airship hangar at the Limsan home office during a planned maintenance and damaged a particularly advanced Allagan piloting node called the Danphe that had been in the hands of the Valabhi for generations. At first, VC thought that it had been an technical accident when the node's artifical intelligence did not come back online, but it was later revealed that the Silver Fox had taken it and other experimental designs for a mobile unit, and refined it into a series of automatons designed as all-purpose servants for luxury buyers - butlers, bodyguards, and personal companions. VC began immediately politicking and petitioning governing bodies in the east to return the stolen property. However, when the world became consumed with the apocolyptic event commonly called the Final Days, however, all parties turned from their corporate warring to focus on themselves and their own backyards out of necessity. VC suffered even further humiliating losses when one of their antique storage facilities in Radz-at-Han was afflicted with a blasphemy, which opened the building up to looting and destruction. They shuttered all of their high-end mercantile services for the first time in their history and have yet to reopen. The company is still recovering on the backs of their subsidiary businesses and investments at the time of this writing.

Aurelle (Aura) Kateb-Calideux

Staff Position: AnnouncerHistory:
A young elezen woman born of Ishgard. Unlike her cold hearted countrymen, including her brother, Aura is a beacon of light and warmth. And a void for all things sweets related.
Fighting Style:
Aura prefers ranged combat with a bow when she can help it, but she can engage at close range with a mechanical, foldable sword and buckler when she has to. Her combat skill with bow and blade is about average... Except when she's had a cup of coffee. If you see her drink coffee, RUN AWAY! No, seriously, there is no hope here. She can move faster than the eye can see, summon portals to teleport about, and pelt you with DOZENS if not HUNDREDS of hats while she peppers you with arrows! You will doubt your sanity should you fight this. It is folly.

Y'shara Aurenal

Staff Position: ChampionHistory:
Sharlayan by way of Hingashi. The young fighter is a boundless of font of energy who believes that friendship is literally magic.
Fighting Style:
Typically fights with an o-dachi, seamlessly blending the physical with the martial. Shara uses earth magic almost exclusively on attack and defense. Though she's not above tossing a bit of fire around when the situation calls for it. Fittingly for an earth-aspected fighter, she faces her opponents head on. Preferring to take blows rather than avoid them. Shara is inordinately fond of the headbutt and will try to ring your bell with it at least once. Maybe twice. Probably three times.
The kami cannot help you if fighting her. So don't ask.

Aqay Khurendol

Staff Position: Healer, BartenderHistory:
The previous Udgan of the Malaguld tribe has been brought by a prophetic dream and endless ambition. What is that ambition? You'll just have to find out. The rumor going around is so make her own football team worth of children.
Fighting Style:
An elemental magic user through and through, Aqay is a ferocious opponent who does not hesitate to scorch, shock, and shatter her foes. Though she is no expert in melee her training with a saber and her clever use of elemental charges can make her just as dangerous up close as it does at range. Her fiery temper means she rarely shows mercy to an opponent that truly irritates her.

Iyrnfatyr Bilgrmann

Staff Position: ChampionHistory:
A middle aged roegadyn from the ancestral land of Aerslant. If you can pronounce his name then you've made a friend. If you have a pulse, you've probably made a friend. A skilled warrior, hunter, fisherman and sausage maker.
Fighting Style:
With overwhelming force comes overwhelming kindness. He may try to kill you with that if his hammer, fists and frost magic aren't cutting it. Listen to him when he tells you exactly how to beat him, because he will tell you. Don't pull your punches, because they're supposed to hurt. It's a good thing pain doesn't seem to slow him down. The best way to avoid getting hurt is to dodge. Getting hit is going to feel painless, like leaving your body. It's when you come back that everything hurts. That's when you realize you're fighting a walking earthquake.

Tsubaki Miyumi

Staff Position: MedicHistory:
A Ruby Sea Raen of diminutive proportion, she is soft spoken and happy to assist someone in need, usually as the Arena's Healer. She is however, not afraid to get into a scuffle should it be required.
Fighting Style:
A blossoming Samurai in training, Tsubaki fights and moves as water flows. Striking hard and fast as a tsunami one moment, while bending and weaving to avoid a strike like a small stream. Water is her domain, and she controls it with utmost precision. Bring a bathing suit if wanting to face this little Sea Lizard!
